A flower business can be a really wonderful and lucrative venture. Even more so if you’re someone like me who loves flowers BERRY much. Aside from being a profitable business, a flower store is something you can open with only a few things.
Licenses and Permits

First things first, you will need licenses and permits. These will help you not only in launching your company formally but also in running it lawfully and efficiently in the long term. According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, having licenses and permits can actually help you increase brand recognition, establish brand trust or confidence, and give you the opportunity to expand into foreign territories.
Essentially, the necessary authorizations for your floral business may vary depending on your location so I highly recommend you check with your state or local government so that you will be able to compile all the requirements for the essential licenses and permits. For starters, you’ll most likely need a sales tax permit and a resale certificate.
A Space for Your Flower Shop

The next thing you’ll need to start a flower business is, of course, a space or a site. If you’re setting up an online floral business, you only need to establish a digital store either on a website or your chosen social media platform. Nevertheless, you will still need to reserve a space in your home so that you’ll have a workstation where you can arrange your blooms and foliage.
When establishing a physical flower store, you have two options: rent a retail space or utilize your property. When it comes to renting, bear in mind that the price may change based on the location and size of the space. Whichever way you go, ensure that your store will have enough space to showcase your beautiful products, a welcoming corner for your customers to be seated while consulting and waiting, as well as a comfortable workstation.
Flower Inventory

Of course, if you don’t have flowers on hand, you can’t start your store operations. It’s advised to start with just enough flower inventory due to the likelihood that you won’t be able to sell many flowers on your first day of operation and having too many at first may result in significant and early financial losses.
Apart from starting with a more manageable flower inventory, I strongly advise you to stockpile flowers that are appropriate for a business launch and resonate with your brand. For instance, if your grand opening is scheduled for the spring, you should stock up on tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and other spring flowers. Also, if your business is established towards its Barbiecore style, the majority of your flower inventory should be pink blooms like dahlias and peonies.
Floral Equipment

You will also need to have the necessary floral equipment. Stock up on essential tools and other implements to use when arranging your products, as well as for storage and display purposes. Without all these, it will be very inconvenient, almost impossible to work on your products when customers start walking through your store.
These pieces of floral equipment may include the following:
● Clippers
● Wire cutters ● Scissors ● Florist knife ● Buckets | ● Floral foam
● Thorn strippers ● Wires ● Secateurs ● Tape |
Florist Supplies

In addition to floral equipment, you will need various florist supplies to operate a flower shop, most of which are for designing or flower arrangements. Not only will these things add the finishing touches to your flower bouquets but they’re to be used to keep your bunches in place and secured once you hand them to your customers. The supplies are as follows:
● Bouquet holder
● Embroidery ● Nylon ties ● Dedication cards ● Envelope | ● Corsage pins
● Flower care products, such as solutions, hydrating products, and so on ● Ribbons |
Conclusion
The five must-have things to start a floral shop business are as follows: 1) licenses and permits, which will also be helpful to the business in the long run; 2) a location for your flower shop, either to rent or own; 3) flower inventory, ideally just enough for the start of the business to avoid early financial losses; 4) floral equipment, such as clippers, scissors, and so on; and 5) florist supplies, especially designing supplies like ribbons, bouquets, and so forth. Without these, running your flower business won’t be as smooth and efficient, if not impossible.
