Holidays When Florists Make the Most Money

Entering the floral business industry may just be one of the best choices you’ll make. You wouldn’t beLEAF how much of a rewarding endeavor it is and this is especially true during certain holidays.

Which holiday sells the most flowers?

Essentially, florists make the most money during Valentine’s Day. The Society of American Florists states that around 22% of Americans purchased flowers for Valentine’s Day in 2022, and it is calculated that far more than 250 million roses are grown for Valentine’s Day. There are other holidays where flower businesses experience an increase in sales. These red-letter days are as follows:

Mother’s Day

Yes! Florists also make a whole lot of money during Mother’s Day, which is observed on May 14 every year. According to Yahoo Finance, it was estimated that Americans spent at most $2.9 billion on flowers for Mother’s Day back in 2022. So, I highly recommend you gear up for the upcoming Mother’s Day this year, if you want to make more revenue.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is another occasion when flower stores do well in terms of sales and, indeed, it’s not all about the turkey. Statistics reveal that 7% of all flower imports in the United States are for Thanksgiving. Flowers are essential around this time, more for décor rather than gift-giving. It is not as excellent on Mother’s Day, but it is still a commendable sales performance. You may also increase your sales on Thanksgiving by simply marketing your business, such as by posting material on Instagram with the hashtag #Thanksgiving.

Christmas and Hanukkah

Florists also do well in terms of sales during the holidays of Christmas and Hanukkah. According to the Society of American Florists, floral shops experience a 26% rise in transaction volume and a 29% increase in dollar volume during Christmas and Hanukkah. This is a slightly better performance than on Mother’s day, particularly in terms of dollar volume. Fresh flowers and red poinsettias are among the best-selling flowers during these holidays.

Memorial Day

Another holiday when flower stores see an uptick in sales is Memorial Day, which is observed every year on the last Monday in May. The objective of this holiday is to remember the fallen by planting flowers, especially gladioli and red poppies. It’s also natural that flower shops thrive on this holiday because Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. I recommend stocking up on blue and red flowers since they may be in high demand during this holiday to mirror the colors of the national flag.

Easter and Passover

Last but not least, there are Easter and Passover, special days that account for 9% of all holiday flower expenditures, according to the Society of American Florists. Seasonal flowers that reflect the mood of spring and regeneration are the best-sellers like easter lilies, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, and easter cacti.

Tips to Make More Money Even if it’s Not a Holiday

Now that you know when flower shops rake in most of the bucks, you can devise a strategy to capitalize on the increased sales throughout the holidays mentioned above. But what if it’s not a holiday? Don’t worry, here are some ideas for increasing flower sales during ordinary days:

  • Market your business on social media platforms, particularly on Instagram. Simply posting eye-catching photos of your arrangements on Instagram can help you reach a wider audience and effectively market your business.
  • Provide free shipping choices or alternatives. Even if it is not a holiday, this will undoubtedly increase the success of your business because delivery choices are appealing to consumers. Even more so if the shipping is free for deliveries in your neighborhood.
  • Capitalize on special events. This includes events such as weddings, birthday parties, and corporate gatherings. Offering floral services to events like these will most likely help in increasing sales for your floral business even if it is not a holiday.

Conclusion

Flower shop owners earn the most during a holiday like Valentine’s Day. Aside from that, florists frequently see an upsurge in sales during Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah, Memorial Day, and Easter and Passover. Even if it isn’t a holiday, flower companies may still do well in sales by effectively promoting on social media, preferably on Instagram, offering delivery choices, and capitalizing on special occasions like weddings and birthday celebrations.
